Preakness Infield Fest=Epic Fail
19. May 2009 by admin.
I have the sign below in my office. I use it for some of the most hilarious stuff I see on the news. Today I am awarding the Infield Fest at the Preakness Stakes my “Epic Fail” award.
It’s not like it wasn’t expected. The infield was built on unlimited supplies of free beer brought in. I was invited to go one year and it was described to me as a sea of beer and drunken women willing to do anything to get more beer. People would bring pools and fill them full of beer and ice.
This year’s Infield Fest was doomed to fail before it began, but it could have been a more graceful failure with a few simple steps:
1.) Why was the beer garden $1 only between 8:00-11:00am?
2.) The bands that played seemed more geared to the older generations than to the youth.
3.) Rock band tornaments? Flavored Oxygen Bar? Sounds like a University sponsored event.
4.) Hooters Swimsuit contest? Hooter’s girls are contractually forbidden to actually expose anything while in uniform.
Maybe there were hoping no one caught onto number 4. I was told that I could have seen alot more in the previous years.Towards the end, it got real desperate with a seductive female voice advertising the things above and “…all that cheap beer” which apparently was only true between 8:00am and 11:00am.
I think that they thought that they would see the same result they did with smoking.Banning smoking in bars did work wonders to bring people to bars who did not ordinary go to them because of the smoke, but there was still a common theme. Smoker or not, they were going to the bar to get drunk, meet people and have fun.
Unfortunatly for Preakness, alcohol was the common theme.
I rest my case.

It’s Time

I realized it’s time for me to start a blog. There are simply to many things that really grind my gears in the world today. It’s time for some common sense. I don’t expect you to agree with everything I say, but I think that it’s time for a re-evaluation of certain things.
